Mayor Mohamed T Khairullah

The Mayor has worked hard over his time in office to help entrepreneurs open small businesses that enhance the economic and cultural diversity of the area including last month when he welcomed a new Jamaican restaurant to town.

The Board of Education in Prospect Park grew this year with the historic swearing in of two outstanding people in Dominican-American Ariosto Rodriguez and Jordanian-American Arwa Ensour.

Over the last 14 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Khairullah has been extremely proactive in making sure his residents were taken care of and that families remained safe. 

As an immigrant and a Muslim American, Mayor Khairullah knows the importance of our public servants being representative of the communities they serve, which is why he has devoted so much of his time to supporting diverse candidates for office.

Mayor Khairullah has prioritized maintaining strong relationships with our first responders including the Borough Police Department and was proud to promote five officers this past month. 

Eighty-five miles of distance is no problem for Mayor Khairullah if it means hosting a fundraiser for Fozia Janjua!

Guests from all over the state gathered to support Fozia Janjua, candidate for Mt. Laurel Township, NJ council in Burlington County, hosted by Mohamed. The event was headlined by special guest Assemblywoman Carol Murphy, Deputy Majority Leader of the NJ State Assembly.

He was delighted to support Ms. Janjua because he recognizes the critical role women, especially from a historically underrepresented background, have in public spaces, in making decisions, and representing their constituents.

Back in June, the nation was moved with protests, chanting, and marching against police brutality and racial inequality.

Under the leadership of Mayor Khairullah, the community of Prospect Park invited residents, local dignitaries and leaders, and police officers to participate in their candlelight vigil. This movement for equality amongst our neighbors in this nation is the cornerstone of Mayor Mohamed Khairullah’s philosophy of leadership.

As a refugee from Syria himself and victim of countless racial profiling, Mayor Khairullah is constantly driven to act locally and think globally with inclusive and equitable opportunities for all.

It’s no secret that COVID 19 brought to us many changes to what we knew as normal. Nonetheless, Mayor Khairullah stood above the curve and was present amidst the pandemic. Here are some things he did:

• Hosted nightly updates for his town
• Provided free masks and the residents of his town and first responders
• Hosted birthday drive-bys that brought smiles to childrens’ faces
• Helped with meat and clothing/back to school supply distributions,
• Hosted their yearly summer camp that provided fun and maximum safety for campers!

Mohamed Khairullah attended Paterson's Puerto Rican flag ceremony on August 22 commemorating the 48th anniversary of the Puerto Rican Parade.

His support for the Puerto Rican goes beyond celebrations; when Hurricane Maria destroyed major parts of the island, Mayor Khairullah immediately responded with hosting a Prospect Park Cares campaign that sent food and clothing over to those affected.

The Puerto Rican community is surely dear to his heart.
